ERIN’S RUN

A snow shower and icy cold conditions that engulfed the Termonfeckin area at 3pm on Sunday February 11th did not stop all those who turned up for the 4th annual Erin’s Run at An-Grianan.

There were over 600 entrants for this event and hail, rain or shine, in this case, snow, they all set off from the starting line to run 5km.

For the fourth time running, if you pardon the pun, it was Drogheda man Simon Ryan who crossed the finish line in a time of 16.08.

Well done to Simon whose Running Club is Raheny Shamrocks. In second place was Tadgh Donnelly from Drogheda and District AC in a time of 16.21 and his club mate Paul Smith was the third man home in a time of 16.44. Not far behind was the first Male U16 to cross the line in a time of 18.41 and that was Neal Hodgins.

The first Lady past the finishing line was Sally Clarke from Boyne AC in a time of 20.06. Second and third places went to Nicole Hoey and Rachel Mc Cormack in times of 20.20 and 20.47 respectively.

The first Female U16 to finish was Abigail Tegart in a time of 21.04 and she runs with Drogheda and District AC. This year the beneficiary from Erin’s Run is the Jack and Jill Foundation and representative Anne Reilly spoke about the work undertaken by this Foundation and how crucial funding is to its operations. Other activities on the day included face painting, a raffle with plenty of prizes and loads of refreshments provided by Julie King, assisted by Mary Cullen.

The organisers wish to thank all local businesses and those from further afield who sponsored prizes for the Raffle, Kevin Doyle-Order of Malta, Ronan Wogan-My Run Results, An Garda Siochana, 7th Louth Scouts Group, An-Grianan, the various Running Clubs and all the local volunteers and stewards who helped make it such a huge success.
