‘IRELAND’S LITTLE BIEBER’ WINS THE 2018 PRIMARY SCHOOLS STAR TITLE AT THE TLT

THE ultimate showman delivered on the big stage to bring the 2018 Primary Schools Star title to Cartown NS last week.

Charles Kirwan blew the judges away with his all round performanc­e of ‘Somebody to You’ - star judge and X Factor supremo Louis Walsh remarking, ‘ I’ve seen a future pop star. You’d be the main man in a new boy band, you are Ireland’s little Bieber.’ He was even more popular on Wednesday afternoon when homework was cancelled for the whole school!

Trad group Faoi Gheasa won the Secondary Schools final.

The confident performanc­e of the 10 year old from 4th class was not lost on proud mum Patricia.

‘He once said he could feel the music in his bones and he was only five!,’ she remarked.

Teacher Shane Reilly was equally thrilled. ‘He’s always the star of our school plays. A great chap.’

He was even more popular on Wednesday afternoon when homework was cancelled for the whole school!

Charles pipped a string of quality performers in a 27 strong field to lift the crown.

Second place went to Conor Haigh from Realt na Mara in Skerries. Performing ‘ Cosmic Love’ he hit all the high notes and inspired Louis to state: ‘ We have found a true musician. You have definately a future in the music business. You’re special.’

Orla McDermott from Scoil Aonghusa was third with ‘ Skinny Love’ and Louis said she was ‘ brilliant’.

There were other category winners with best vocals going to the stunning Emily Conlon from St Paul’s in Rathmullen with ‘ Time to Say Goodbye’ - Louis saying it was an ‘amazing job’.

Ciara Carolan from Ballymaken­ny was also honoured, performing ‘How Far I’ll Go’ accapella, Louis saying she was ‘very original’ and ‘you stand out from the crowd.’

The best choir were Tullyallen NS and Super Heroes and like their second choir, Attitude, were superbly drilled and prepared for the show.

Hannah Gregory from St Mary’s Bryanstown has been the high flying dance star throughout the series and won best dancer on the night, Louis saying she was ‘magical, slick and brilliant.’

Tullyallen NS had another winner in Kleopatra Bruno - a brilliant pianist, Louis remarking, ‘very profession­al, you are a talent.’

The alternativ­e act of the night was Callum Reilly from Tullyallen, who did a Rubic Cube special - compelting three in three minutes. ‘Go for Ireland’s Got Talent next year,’ Louis exclaimed.

The night was a real success with some great performace­s, Emma Farrell from Ballymaken­ny described as a ‘natural’ while Hannah Murphy from Cartown ‘could be amazing in time,’ Louis added.

Sadbh and Leah, the Dancing Dolls from Tullyallen, delivered a faultless jive, Daisy Miller bringing Nicki Minaj to Irish dancing!, Sophie Kinsella, Peter Connor, Maisie Kelly, Kate Carolan, Sienna Stanley and Jayden Fogarty, others starring too.

The 4 Joking Amigos from St Mary’s enjoyed d themselves, Abby Balfe and Jayne Maher delivered d a stunning Hallelujah, Clodagh Halpin, the gifted Muirieann McDonnell, Saoirse McCormack, Luke Casey, and 5 Stars from St Joseph’s CBS all adding to a superb night.
