Gerry had expressed site fears
LOCAL man Gerry Floyd has welcomed the decision to fence off the Butter Gate.
Mr.Floyd had written to the National Monument Service expressing concern that the work undertaken by a local group could potentially cause damage to the Medieval Gate and its surrounds.
According to him the erection of a series of steps in the area could have led to a visitor to the site injuring themselves.
He also expressed his reservations to Louth County Council on the matter.
Mr. Floyd is now calling on the Office of Public Works to assume responsibility for the monument and maintain the site in such a way as to allow visitor access.
