GARDAI are investigating an aggravated burglary at a home in the Oldbridge Estate on the Slane Road last Friday in which the resident was confronted by two men before being tied up.

The terrifying ordeal began at around 7pm when the homeowner awoke to find two men standing on his landing, one of whom was holding an iron bar.

The man, who is in his late 50s, was then tied up before the heartless thugs fled the house with his mobile phone.

A spokesperson for the gardaí said the homeowner was understandably shaken after his ordeal. He said it appeared the two culprits had assumed the house was empty at the time.

Entry to the property was gained through a side door after the lock had been popped.

Anyone with any information on the incident or who may have noticed anything suspicious in the Slane Road area around this time on Friday evening is asked to contact Drogheda Garda Station on (041) 9874200.
