Van and trailer stuck in Bettystown sand
DROGHEDA Coastguard were called out out to Bettystown Beach on Sunday after a jeep and a trailer became stuck in the sea.
The Coastguard were tasked by MRCC and immediately responded.
However, the tide was already well in by the time they arrived and due to the high water level around the vehicle they were unable to recover the jeep successfully.
Some time later, on the same evening, Drogheda Coastguard were tasked for a second time to attend the East Meath area, this time responding to a car stuck in the sea at Laytown.
Thankfully this time the water levels weren’t as high and the team managed to successfully remove the car from danger.
The unit were then stood down.
The Irish Coast Guard would like to remind the public about the dangers of driving on beaches. Because of soft sand and fast rising tides, people run the risk of losing their cars to the sea. The Coastguard have received a number of similar calls over the past year.
‘Please follow the danger signs, and if parking your car, park above the high water line,’ said a spokesperson for the organisation. If you see anyone in trouble on or near the water dial 112/999 immediately and ask for the Coast Guard.
