- By HUBERT MURPHY

A bid to raise another €80,000 to help save an historic ceiling at the Church of Ireland in Collon will be boosted this Sunday when world renowned tenor Eugene Ginty performs at the church.

With soprano Sandra Oman and harpist Ciara Taaffe, the trio will be the star performers in a nignt of stunning music.

The tickets for the show are €25 and refreshments will be served.

The programme will include excerpts from La Boheme, Messiah, the Phantom and lots more.

Eugene is well known for his sparkling shows and this promises to be a unique occasion in a unique setting.

John Rountree from the organising committee says the concert is another vital night in the bid to save the roof of the ancient church and the ceiling below it.

The project cost is about €150,000 and with €70,000 already spent on it, it’s vital to raise the extra money.

‘We’ll have two concerts and a garden party as well. The aim is to save the church for the community and the south Louth area. It is ideal for concerts and lectures’, he stated.

The project plans have been in place since 2013 with the likes of John, Paddy Watters, Michael Reid, Seamus Roe, Hazel O’Donoghue and Michael McMahon playing their part.
