Harry will talk about the famed Hall’s shop in Mell

-

THE first Old Drogheda Society lecture of the year takes place on this Wednesday evening, February 28th at 8 pm in the Governor’s House, Millmount when Harry Hall will speak on “Memories of Mell & Hall’s shop 1941-1995”

Harry grew up in the family-run grocery & sweet shop that was the heart of the community of Mell for more than five decades. Providing this important local service, while interacting with the neighbours from the surrounding area on a daily basis, on a business and a social level, the `shop-lady` became affectionately known to all as `Mrs. Hall`.

His talk will remember some of the great characters from the Mell area as well as events and the changes that took place over the years.

Harry is a native of the Parish of Mell, one of three children to the late Tommy and Eileen Hall. He was a manager in the Health Service processing medical card claims and payments for most of his life. He also played football in his younger days with Oliver Plunketts G.F.C. and is, like his father was, a member of the Old Drogheda Society for many years.

There will be a bookstall on the night and both members and non members are welcome.
