Lantern Lounge a/w v Mariner A; Carranstow­n A h/w v Lantern Bar; Boyne Rvs 0, Thatch A 8; Sally Inn HORSE racing fans in the Drogheda area will be in for a big treat on Friday March 9th when Katie Walsh and Niall Cronin make a special appearance in Gleeson’s Bar for a Cheltenham Festival Preview Night.

The event is free event in appreciati­on of the regular punters, who will be eager to get a few tips from the experts.

Walsh is one of the most successful amateur jockeys in horse racing, having enjoyed plenty of success at the highest level. A multiple Cheltenham Festival winning jockey, she has also won two Grade One races in her career and is regularly used by champion trainer Willie Mullins on big occasions.

Indeed, she almost rewrote the history books in the 2012 Aintree Grand National when partnering Seabass to finish third, the closest any female jockey has ever come to winning the most famous race in the world.

Cronin has been racing correspond­ent for The Herald since 2007 and as well as being one of Ireland’s leading racing journalist­s he has also ridden in a number of charity races, including at Punchestow­n, Cheltenham and The Curragh.

The night begins with a ‘meet and greet’ at 8pm, with opportunit­ies for a chat and photograph, and there will be interviews at 9.45pm, followed by a Question & Answer session.

Rings league Malcolm Halpenny and Dylan Gargan emerged victorious in last Friday’s Meath Rings League A and B individual competitio­ns, beating Cathal Dardis and Johnny B McManus in their respective finals.

Attentions now turn to the All-Irelands which take place in the Green Isle Hotel, Clondalkin, this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

NUMBERS drawn in last week’s Seneschals­town GAA Club lotto for a jackpot of € 3,700 were 1, 5, 16, 27 and the five €25 winners were Breege Conneely, John Critchley, Pat Dixon, Thomas Bennett and Mary Groome. The draw takes place at 8.30pm every Thursday in the Duleek AFC clubhouse, tickets are available from committee members and the jackpot remains at € 8,000.

Duleek lotto NUMBERS drawn in last week’s Duleek AFC/SBG FC lotto were 12, 14, 27, 30 and the six €20 winners were A Lowthe, Kizzy, P O’Brien, Rosie Dowd, R Clarke and Ken Mac.

The previous week the €25 prizes went to Fiona McDonnell, Colm Curtis, Martin Foy, Celine Sheehy and Conor Duffy.
