SLANE CREDIT UNION

Slane Credit Union is 50 this year and there are plans to commemorate and celebrate the anniversary throughout the year. The theme of the anniversary celebrations is Community and Contribution, not only for the Credit Union, but all the groups they have supported over the years.

Slane Credit Union wants to recognise the volunteers and the many community members who have contributed to important events. They want to do this with the community groups and ask them to join with the credit union in celebrating their events throughout the year. One of the important events is an exhibition of photo’s of those who have made contributions to Slane over the last 50 years and they are seeking pictures or artifacts that they can borrow and exhibit at the Credit Union.

FIRST AID COURSE

The Irish Red Cross Slane Branch is holding a Practical First Aid course in the Red Cross rooms Slane, starting Tuesday March 6th for six weeks. Anyone interesting in completing the course please contact Hazel 087 2630182 or Maria 086 3496888.

COMMUNITY GRANTS

Applications are invited from Community Groups, Tidy Towns/Village Committees, Residents Associations and other organisations, to assist with actions and projects being undertaken in their local area for the Meath County Council Community Grant Scheme 2018. The range of grant categories available under the Community Grant Scheme 2018 are:

Residents Association, Tidy Towns, Equality, Social Inclusion & Active

Elderly, Recreation, Sport & Youth Activity, Festivals & Events,

Burial Ground

CHRISM MASS

The annual Chrism Mass will take place in Mullingar Cathedral on Wednesday, March 28th. Bus departs Slane at 5pm sharp. All welcome. To book a place contact Teresa 087 6970421.

TEAM MONGEY RACING

Team Mongey Racing have a fundraiser in the Boyne Valley Inn on Saturday, March 3rd, starting a 9pm. Music by DJ Groggy Mac. Finger food and raffle on the night, tickets €10.

ROSARY

The Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet will be said every Thursday in the Youth Cafe (beside church) at 7pm. Everyone is welcome to come and pray for world peace.

LEDWIDGE COTTAGE

The Francis Ledwidge Museum has reopened for the new season and is open every day from 10am until 3.30pm.

CLUB’S CONDOLENCES

Navan Road Club send their condolence to the family and friends of the late Gabriel Howard from the Stamullen Road Club. Gabriel was a cycling legend who took park in the Ras Tailteann on 21 occasions. In 1965 he won his only stage from Monaghan to Birr a distance of 115 miles when he was a member of the Meath team. In total he completed an incredible 205 Ras stages and gained his best overall placing in 1971 when third to another Meath cyclist Colm Nulty. After his racing career was over he got involved with organising the Ras and became part of the committee entrusted with keeping the famous event going.

He was a wonderful official for the sport locally and nationally and will be sadly missed by all his cycling colleagues. To Kay his wife, daughters Siobhan and Sinead, son Seamus our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Ar Dheis Dé

DATES FOR THE DIARY

Confirmation in Slane parish takes place on Thursday, April 26th at 3pm. First Holy Communion is on Saturday, May 19th at 11am. Blessing of the Graves is in Monknewtown, Dowth and Fennor on Sunday May 20th, and on the Hill of Slane and St Erc’s cemetery on Sunday May 27th.

SOSAD CYCLE

Now is the time to start training for the big 10th anniversary SOSAD Cycle hosted by Slane Spinners. It takes place on Sunday, May 13th, and this year the cycle will start and finish at Stackallen Pitch & Putt premises where there is ample facilities for parking cars etc. The signing in fee is €20 for the 105km or 50km fun run. Sign in at 8am, start at 9.30am sharp. Helmets compulsory, Soup and sandwiches on return. Online check in at eventmaster.ie
