Donore residents in plea for pathway
AN appeal has been made for Meath County Council to install a pathway from the Grange estate to Frank’s Country Cottage .
Local residents presented a petition to Cathaoirleach of the Laytown/Bettystown area Paddy Meade recently, signed by 250 people.
Vincent Donovan from the residents body said that the road in the area was very busy with 250,000 visiting Newgrange yearly.
They say that the road from Drogheda to Donore and on to Newgrange needs to be upgraded.
The stretch that needs immediate attention includes a creche, with buggies having to be pushed on the road.
‘It’s very dangerous for children going to school and there’s a blind corner there too. We have been looking for this for two years,’ Vincent stated.
It is hoped that Donore will enter the Tidy Towns this year and they are seeking the council’s support with that.
Cllr Paddy Meade said that the road was linking Drogheda to a world famous site and this was a ‘massive issue’ for the community.
‘We could spend €10,000 on this and get a really good job done quickly,’ he stated.
Engineer Christy Clarke, speaking at a council meeting in Duleek said that the area could be cleaned off and there was a hard surface on it, apart from 15m.
‘We’ll look at black top on it or concrete,’ he remarked.
Director of Services Fiona Lawless said that the council had instigated a lot of footpath improvements in recent years and spent money on numerous projects and signs.
