Chance for you to rent your house for Fleadh

- By FIONA MAGENNIS

WITH tens of thousands of visitors expected to descend on Drogheda this summer for the much-anticipated Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann, the question on everyone’s lips has been ‘where is everyone going to stay?’

Well the Chairman of the Fleadh accommodation team, Eddie Phelan has the answer: ‘We’d like that to stay in YOUR house!’

He explained: ‘We’re looking for local people to rent out their houses for the Fleadh from 1219th August.’

With over 400,000 visitors expected to visit Drogheda in just one week, demand for accommodation is going to be very high. People will stay in hotels, guest houses, campsites and dormitories depending on their needs. But one of the big traditions the Fleadh is that local people rent out their houses, or rooms in their houses, to allow Fleadh-goers to come and stay. It’s a great way to make extra money and to get involved in the fun of the Fleadh.

‘Families that to come to the Fleadh are looking for a home away from home. Their children are attending music lessons at Scoil Éigse every morning. They want to be able to stay in a nice family home close to Drogheda. They appreciate and take care of the houses as if were their own. Their trip to Drogheda is often the family summer holiday and they come to enjoy the music and fun of the Fleadh.’

Committee member Karen Devine added: ‘We’d love you to consider renting out your house or a room in your house. It’s a good chance to earn some extra money that week while knowing that your home is in good hands. It’s a simple process. Pick up form at the West Court Hotel or Scotch Hall Information Desk or download the form from www.FleadhCheoil.ie/ Accommodation. Alternatively you can request a form by calling 087 7007322 or emailing accommodation@fleadhcheoil.ie. A one bed house or apartment close to Drogheda Town Centre will rent for €500 for the week while a 4 bed house will fetch €800-900. Rooms will rent from €30 per person per night, more if breakfast is included.
