Slane’s Christine is first female accountant
Last Friday petite brunette Christine McCormack of Carrickdexter, Slane was presented, in her office in West Street, Drogheda with a bouquet of flowers from “Charlie’s Angels.”
The donors were not those delectable dolly bird detectives from the U.S. but four young professionals who have taken this title in deference to their boss, accountant and soccer administrator, Charlie Walsh.
The “Angels” are all Junior colleagues of Christine and together they have pulled off something of a coup by attaining 100 per cent pass rate in their accountancy examinations.
It was Christina’s success that the bouquet was honouring. By passing the last part of her examination she has qualified as an accountant and become the first girl ever in a Drogheda office to do so.
Aged only 23 she has passed all five parts of her examination covering 18 subjects with flying’ colours. She has covered subjects ranging from taxation to data processing and auditing and all aspects of business and management techniques.
“The Angels”, Richard Bowden of Mark’s Terrace, Tom Matthews, Chord Road who both passed Part II of their exams and Allan Clarke, North Road and Martin Caulfield, Chord Road who passed the preliminaries.
Nowadays there are more girls entering accountancy but five years ago when Christine first entered the offices of Charles Walsh and Co. she was something of a rarity.
A past pupil of the National School, Slane, Holy Faith Convent, Clontarf and the Ursuline Convent, Belgium, she never had any difficulties passing examinations.
In Belgium she studied for, and got an Oxford A level in accountancy.
