Fined after parking on INVISIBLE LINES

A PARKING ‘ANOMALY’ on Laurence’s Street is driving motorists crazy – despite free parking in council-controlled areas.
Drivers were left fuming after they were ticketed on a stretch of road outside Kirwan’s Fish Cart. The stretch formerly had double yellow lines before being resurfaced by the council in recent months. And although the council failed to repaint the lines, fines are still being issued for parking there.
Witnesses expressed amazement at the scene last week as angry motorists questioned the fines on non-existent lines.
Meanwhile council officials have been invited to an emergency public meeting in the Barbican this Thursday at 8pm to discuss the parking dilemma.
DROGHEDA’S crazy parking signs left both visitors and locals confused - and some out of pocket.
The strangest anomaly centres on Bolton Street.
Up to last week, if you were driving up the street from Fair Street at around 5pm, you could park outside the Punt or wherever for free.
But pull across the road to the side of the council HQ and it would cost you €1.20 up to 6pm.
And those parking late in the day in the various four-hour limit car parks also felt the pinch.
The car park at the Market is up to 5pm, but there’s an extra hour of payment required if you wished to park on George’s Street.
Indeed, the charges in this car park were under the bye-laws from 2003 - when it was just 50c an hour!
It is now hoped that with the suspension of pay parking, all these issues will be ironed out.
