THE launch of the newly formed ‘M1-Drogheda Chamber’ Skillnets was attended by over 70 local companies at The Mill Enterprise Hub as part of Louth LEO Enterprise week.

Drogheda employers welcomed the opportunity to avail of local subsidised training for their employees as part of the government-funded Skillnets programme, and also participated in a giant speed-networking session where they pitched to over 20 companies.

M1-Drogheda Chamber Skillnets is a multi-sector learning network for companies of all sizes in Drogheda and the surrounding region. The aim of the M1-Drogheda Chamber Skillnets is to encourage member companies to work collaboratively, and to respond locally to skills needs within their businesses. The network will support regional development by helping local businesses to arrive at shared local solutions that are more accessible, more affordable and ultimately, more effective at meeting their needs.

Thomas McEvoy, Head of Enterprise at Louth LEO welcomed the attendees, and highlighted the benefits of upskilling for small and large companies. According to Paddy Callaghan, President of Drogheda & District Chamber of Commerce, “Drogheda Chamber is delighted to have successfully applied for Skillnets Funding. It is essential that local employers and employees consistently update their skillsets in order to maintain competitiveness and drive forward their business. We will be developing a wide range of courses across multiple sectors and levels, and welcome suggestions from local employers on their specific needs. Skillnets will be of great benefit to our members, and we also welcome non- Chamber members to enquire about the available training”.

Linda Ennis, the newly-appointed Skillnets Manager, spoke of the many benefits of being a member business of a Skillnets training network including saving of time and resources, networking opportunities with other businesses, creating new business contacts and opportunities, and the sharing of knowledge, ideas, advice and best practice.

The accompanying Speed-networking session proved to be a fantastic opportunity for local companies to promote their business to multiple potential customers, suppliers and collaborators in a structured and fun format. This session was facilitated by a local business owner Kelly Kierans of Gingernut Events. Over 45 attendees checked-in for the speed-networking, with each business getting a chance to pitch to over 20 businesses during a one-hour session.

Details of upcoming training courses will be posted on the Drogheda Chamber website.
