Standing ovation for Fit Kids on IGT show

- By FIONA MAGENNIS

THERE was raucous applause and even a standing ovation from all four judges following Fit Kids/Fit Teens high octane performance on Ireland’s Got Talent last Saturday night.

For the past six weeks Fit Kids/Fit Teens Dance Club have been glued to TV3 watching all the acts perform on Ireland’s Got Talent secretly awaiting their turn. Last Saturday saw fourteen of their members perform a Barber’s theme Hip Hop performance to Bruno Mars ‘Perm’ that had the whole of the TLT, including Judges Louis Walsh, Denise Van Outen, Michelle Visage and Jason Byrne, on their feet.

With the all important four yes’s the FKFT crew are hopefully on their way to a place in the semi-finals next Monday 19th March.

Denise Van Outen told the ecstatic group ‘you smashed it!’ while Louis Walsh added: ‘I think you’re fantastic role models’.

Jason Byrne, meanwhile, was envious of their talents. ‘If I was a teenager I’d absolutely want to join your group. You’re so cool!’ he said.

Fit Kids/Fit Teens founder Jacinta Cassidy from Mornington explained that the deliberation episode will be shown this Saturday at 7.30pm and every kid in the dance club has their fingers and toes crossed for a happy outcome.

Jacinta said that coming up to the closing date for the competition a few of their Instructors, including Shauna Browning from Bettystown and Jamie Boylan who teaches at the Laytown class, agreed to make a video with some of their champion dancers including Sidas Bagavicius from Grange Rath, Sean Mullarkey from Ashfield, Michaela Matthews from Fountain Hill and Aine Carolan from Tullyallen. ‘When we heard that there were over 9,000 entries for Ireland’s Got Talent we didn’t expect anything so were thrilled to get through several rounds of the process and get the chance to dance infront of the Judges,’ explained Jacinta. ‘Although everyone was nervous the audience at the TLT were incredibly supportive especially when they realised that many were from the local Drogheda, Termonfeckin and Laytown classes,’ she aded.

The Dance club are blown away by the support of the local businesses, football clubs, schools and other orgainisations and are really hoping to do the area proud. If they make to to Monday’s live semi-finals they are hoping for the continued support to get them a step further to the prize of €50,000 and a one hour prime time TV special next Christmas. The cash would be very welcomed, as the kids themselves would like to set up dance scholarships to help disadvantaged young people enjoy this art, it’s the TV special that has them most excited as they hope all the children that attend weekly classes could be part of the experience.
