DIARY
THE one thing that people find hard to understand when it comes to the workings of the local authorities is the ‘piecemeal’ approach to tasks.
Quite often, funding for projects comes from various headings, so it’s a matter of bringing them all together and doing a proper job.
Often solving one problem creates another and so on, so what about Greenhills and what that area needs.
Since the closure of Laurence’s Gate, the junction at Usher’s old factory with the Baltray Road has become very busy - but not a penny has been spent on it.
The trucks coming from town and heading towards Tom Roe’s Point move swiftly along and the view to the right down towards Donor’s Green is really blind.
Also, just on this stretch, an area that threatened to collapse a few years ago was repaired but is again showing signs of going the same way again.
Further back towards the junction with the school road is another disaster waiting to happen. The junction is right on a bend and needs vastly improved road markings.
Then comes the ‘rough ride’. The road (right) has just crumbled in recent months and it won’t take much more.
It’s a road that takes all levels of traffic, from cars to heavy trucks and buses and the surface just can’t take that.
Then as you go right back to the far side of Our Lady’s College who come across warning signs for the approaching school.
But both have been stuck many times, to such an extent that they have moved 90 degrees the wrong way.
The traffic lights ahead warning sign just needs to be replaced.
The rumble strips could also do with a revamp.
I believe there is funding being set aside for some of the tasks above but it will take a pretty hefty sum to sort out all the issues in this area.
