“Rith 2018” reaches Ardee

-

The pupils from 5th Class in Scoil Mhuire na Trócaire, Ardee took part in the Ardee stage of the national relay run “Rith 2018” as part of their school’s Seachtain na Gaeilge programme.

Rith 2018 is a national festival that takes place between 11-17 March as one of the main events of Seachtain na Gaeilge nationally. It follows a 500+km course for a massive relay-race , running from Belfast around the country to finish in Kerry. The pupils of Scoil Mhuire na Trócaire represented Ardee on the morning of 13 March when the relay reached Ardee.

The girls had been training daily with their teachers Ms Olive McKenna and Mrs Donna Kirby and were “as fit as fiddles” on the day of the relay! They were cheered on by family, friends and fellow-pupils and there was a carnival atmosphere as they were escorted through Ardee accompanied by a convoy of local Gardai and race organisers.

It proved to be a fun-filled, enjoyable event, one of the many activities the pupils will take part in during Seachtain na Gaeilge. Maith sibh a chailíní!!
