Barrs battle to first victory

NAOMH FIONNBARRA GLEN EMMETS 1-12 1-9

NAOMH Fionnbarra recorded a good win over Glen Emmets in Round 3 of the Paddy Sheelan Cup at the Louth Centre of Excellence, Darver on Friday evening.

The Barrs played against the wind in the first half but made a lot of the running and probably should have been ahead at half time due to a number of missed goal chances and a number of point efforts either dropped into the Glen Emmets keeper’s hands or went wide.

Glen Emmets took full advantage of these lapses as a goal from Keith Lynch saw them lead by 1-5 to 0-7 at half time.

The Barrs improved in the second half but were chasing the game for most of the half as the Emmets tacked on a few scores from play and from frees while the Togher men were still trying to find their range.

They finally made the breakthrough when a long free into the Glen Emmets square by Jack Butterly caused panic and Eoghan Osborne pounced to give the Finbarrs the lead which they held until the end of the game.

The Togher club would also like to wish Michael McGrane a speedy recovery as he had to be taken off after getting injured.
