CLUB Captain Paddy Malone will be hoping that it is ‘third time lucky’ when he re-fixes his Captains Drive-in which has been twice postponed due to the efforts of ‘the Beast from the East and it’s offspring’. With work commitment­s next week Easter Saturday as opposed to Easter Sunday is a possible date that will be put to the membership. Meanwhile next weekend the season will start with

Indeed our first Golfer of the Year counting competitio­n will be the March Monthly Medal on March 24.

Yes members, the weather might suggest otherwise but the start of the 2018 Inter-Club Golf Competitio­ns is upon us. Our Ulster Cup and All-Ireland Fourball teams have to have home and away legs of both competitio­ns played before April 16. The Ulster Cup matches against Ballyclare have been fixed for Sat April 7 @ Ballyclare 2pm and home the following week April 14 at 12 noon.

The All-Ireland Fourball team will be in action on the same two Saturday’s April 7 at home to Strabane and away on April 14 with a 12 noon tee-off time for both matches.

The first of our Green Tee Bank Holiday Singles Stableford Open on Monday March 18 fell victim to the snow. The next Open will be on Ester Monday Tee times can be booked through the Golfnet Booking system or by contacting the club at 30889374 or 30 889580. Entry Fee is £12 or £6 for members.

DUNDALK

TOMMY Renaghan (13) and Mia Quinn (5) were the winners of the nine hole singles competitio­ns on St Patrick’s Day while Alison Quigley (36) & David Murden (8) won the Front Nine Scotch Mixed and Pauline Campbell (11) & Gerry Campbell (25) took the honours down the Back Nine.

Congratula­tion to Caolan Rafferty who helped Maynooth University claim the Irish Colleges Match Play Series at Woodbrook last week.

Playing for Maynooth C, Rafferty partnered Eanna Griffin in a foursomes pairing and it was their two-under par effort across the final nine holes that clinched the title on countback as Maynooth teams filled the top three positions.

Congratula­tions to Eoin Murphy and Josh Mackin have been selected on the Irish Boys team to face Wales in Cardigan on March 24 and 25.

DUNDALK LADIES

THE first 18-hole stableford competitio­n took place on Saturday 10th and Tuesday 13th March. The weather gods are certainly not in our favour at the moment, but hopefully this is only a temporary setback.

Some ladies were not deterred by the challengin­g conditions and scored well. Congratula­tions to Kitty Duffy who won Class A with a very good score of 34pts. Kitty played well and managed the course well.

We had another great score from Mary Dwyer who wins Class C with 34 points - and well done to our ex officio Maeve Ahern who emerged as the winner of Class B with 32 points. Congratula­tions to all the winners.

MACBRIDE P&P

THE much-anticipate­d week five of the MacBride Winter League was once again hampered by the snowy weather conditions on Sunday, resulting in two sessions of play taking place on Monday (results not available at time of going to press).

The final week of the league will take place later this week. Times of play are Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 10am and this will be an 18 gross competitio­n.

The presentati­on of prizes to all the individual weekly winners and the overall league-winning teams will take place following play on Sunday.

There was no winner of the most recent club lotto jackpot draw which took place last Wednesday. The winning numbers were 1, 5, 13 & 26. The lucky dip winners were Molly Ryan, Sonia McCabe & Mary Cottrell jnr.

The next draw will take place on Tuesday March 27th when the jackpot prize up for grabs will be €2,950. Thank you for your continued support.

MacBride held our Annual Cheltenham Fundraiser last week and this was well supported once again.
