FR JOHN HANRATTY IS APPOINTED PARISH PRIEST IN MONASTERBO­ICE

VERY Rev. John Hanratty, who has been a curate in St. Peter’s Parish, Drogheda, for the past 17 years, takes up an appointmen­t as parish priest of Monasterbo­ice this Saturday.

He will replace the late Fr. Paddy Coyle, PP who died just before Christmas. A native of Dundalk and son of the late Mr and Mrs. Paddy Hanratty, Clanbrassi­l Street, Dundalk, Fr. Hanratty was a popular figure around Drogheda where he was involved in the Legion of Mary, Vincent De Paul and local bridge club of which he was president for a period.

He was educated in the CBS, Dundalk, and St. Patrick’s Seminary, Armagh, and ordained at Maynooth in 1952. His career spanned the parishes of Dromiskin, . Haggardsto­wn and Ballymacna­b, Co. Armagh, until he came on transfer to Drogheda in 1964.
