Annual Easter march to the Marsh Road on Sunday morning

-

SINN Féin in Drogheda will mark the Anniversary of the 1916 rising with its Easter Commemoration to the Republican plot on the Marsh Rd next Sunday 1st April.

The parade will assemble at 12 noon outside St. Peter’s Church, West Street.

Speaking in advance of the event Cllr Joanna Byrne (pictured) who will chair the event said, “As in previous years two bands, the Lourdes Brass Band and The Rising Phoenix Republican Flute band will be in attendance and these will be led by a republican colour party made up of members from the three Sinn Féin cumann in the south of the county.

‘It is important we pay tribute to all of those brave men and women who gave their lives in the cause of Irish freedom. I want to invite people to attend the commemoration, celebrate 1916 and also ultimately help us achieve Irish unity. I would encourage people to honour Ireland’s patriot dead by wearing an Easter lily”. The main speaker this year is Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd.
