Andrejs and Matthew in sky dive

On 7th April, 5th Year students from St Mary’s Diocesan school in Drogheda, Andrejs Telica and Matthew O’Connell (right) will be doing a skydive in aid of Youth Suicide Prevention.

The skydive will take place in the Irish Parachute Club in Co Offaly, with both students having to fundraise a minimum of €500 each for the Charity.

‘We recently had a Positivity Week in the school which promotes positive mental health and wellbeing along with fundraising for suicide awareness. When searching charities for our 6th year leg wax the students came across the skydive fundraiser and where eager to get involved,’ Roisin Curtis, teacher and Transition year coordinator, stated.

‘131 student journals where placed in the yard of St Mary’s Diocesan school on 8th March to represent the average number of students who die by suicide in Ireland every year. This was a frightening reminder of the reality of suicide in Ireland and was used to remind the students that their mental health is far more important than any grade.

‘We’d like to wish Andrejs and Matthew the very best of luck in their skydive and encourage people to get behind them and the fantastic charity. If you’d like to help you can TEXT YSPI SAS2884 to 50300 to sponsor them or donate online at https://skydive.yspi.ie/mattdec2000 for this very worthy cause. ‘
