Pat’s hold firm in derby

ST PATRICKS COOLEY KICKHAMS 0-15 0-5

THE first Peninsula derby of the new season ended in a comfortable victory for St Patricks as they advanced to the semi-final of the Paddy Sheelan Cup.

The Pats made the trip to Fr McEvoy Park expecting a tough challenge from their neighbours but in truth they were rarely tested as they returned home with a ten-point victory under their belts.

Having lost out in the final last year, the Lordship side are back in the mix for early season honours and will be encouraged by this performance and the healthy 15 point tally.

The opening quarter was a relatively even affair but the Pats had already illustrated they had the slight edge as they took an early 0-3 to 0-1 lead.

The Cooley challenge faded thereafter and by the time the half time whistle sounded they were trailing by 0-9 to 0-2, with Danny O’Connor, Leonard Grey and Jason Woods all contributing to the score for the Pats.

The home side battled in the early stages of the second period but a comeback never really looked likely. Paddy Keenan led the way in terms of scoring while Gavin Gregory and Tadhg O’Connor also found the target after being introduced as subs.

Fearghal Malone top-scored for Cooley with three points while Emmet Rogan contributed the remaining two scores.
