Duleek crew in flying form
DESPITE losing an hour’s sleep on Sunday morning as the clocks went forward, there was a great buzz among Duleek & District AC members ahead of the 48th Dunboyne four-mile road race.
This event marked the opening race of the Supreme Clean Captain’s League and club captains Derek Sheridan and Celena Tierney led out the 33-strong Duleek crew.
It turned out to be a double celebration for Celena who set a PB, but Daragh Sculley was first home for the club in 28:16, followed by Robert Kiernans in 28:30.
Shane Reid was in flying form, with a PB and third home for the club in 28:59.
Niamh Connolly was the first lady home from the club in a speedy time of 31:48, followed by Lorraine Noone and - hot on her heels - Karen Creed who was third lady home for the club.
Training is paying off for Mick Hillman as he completed the race in a speedy 32:07. Stephen Gallagher is going from strength to strength as he posted a PB, as did Tom Conroy who had a good race in 30:54.
It was a debut performance for Angela Woods and a PB for Marion Hayden, while the winter miles are clearly paying off for Aoife Walsh and Stephen McKee who both had outstanding performances on the day.
Further afield, Anita Fields Carolan and Lorna Fields flew the flag for Duleek in Saturday’s Western Greenway half and full marathon.
The spectacular Great Western Greenway is a 42km trail which follows the route of the renowned Westport to Achill railway which closed in 1937 and the longest off-road walking and cycling trail was bustling with runners on Saturday last.
