Erinn wins national indoor title
DUNLEER AC’s Erinn Leavy added a National Indoor Under-13 600m title to her Cross-Country crown when she produced an outstanding run in Sunday’s final in Athlone IT.
Earlier, she had eased her way into the deciding race by running a time of 1min 47sec in the heats.
There was also medal joy for Karlis Kaugars as he produced an excellent series of throws to win silver in the Under-14 shot putt with a new personal best of 14.16m.
The result crowned an excellent season to date that has seen Karlis win indoor medals in the shot putt, long jump and high jump at the Leinster Championships to qualify for the Nationals.
Meanwhile, Garry Campbell produced a superb run to finish fifth overall in Sunday’s Dunboyne 4-mile road race.
The promising youngster clocked a time of 18:48, more than three minutes faster than any of his clubmates on the day.
Pat Fitzpatrick was 33rd - fourth Over-40 - in 21:53, Anthony Connolly finished 44th in 22:31, Mark Carroll was 61st in 23:50 and Fran Whelan 80th and fourth junior after coming home in 24:35.
