Minute’s silence observed by council for Shaun Lynch

LOCAL councillor­s stood for a minute’s silence in respect of former member Shaun Lynch, who passed away recently.

Addressing the area meeting in Duleek, Cllr Paddy Meade said that Shaun was deeply respected in the community - including the agricultur­al world.

Cllr Tom Kelly said they had been colleagues for a number of years on the council and it was a sad day.

Other councillor­s also voice their sympathy with Cllr Sharon Keogan saying she got to know him in 2000.

‘He was very much involved in the Duleek community and last year we gave him a lifetime achievemen­t award,’ she said, adding that he, with wife Liz, set up the Irish Cot

Congratula­tions to all the Cushinstow­n athletes who competed in the Leinster Indoor Championsh­ips over the last few weekends. They came home with a haul of medals, 7 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze, good luck to them in the National juvenile Indoor championsh­ips which will take place over the next few weekends.

NATIONAL BANANA DAY

National Banana Day – the day when Ireland can officially go bananas, all in aid of a good cause – will take place on Wednesday, April 18th next.

Being promoted nationwide by fruit importers Fyffes, activities being held on the day will be geared towards raising funds for Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Those throughout Drogheda wishing to make a donation of €4 can do so by texting the word BANANA to 50300. Temple Street Children’s Hospital will receive a minimum of €3.25.
