€20k Gold Cup winner for cancer

Another great day for Daffodil Day cause

- BY ALISON COMYN

IT’S always one of the highlights of the Drogheda social calendar - not to mention a massive fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society - and this year’s Gold Cup charity Daffodil Day lunch didn’t disappoint, raising almost €20,000 for Daffodil Day nurses.

Owners and staff from many local business came together on Friday 16th of March, for a Fun Gold Cup Charity racing day.

The day started with a drinks reception at in the Westcourt Hotel, followed by live racing, a three course meal, auction and raffle, and all prize items were kindly donated by local companies and golf clubs.

Auctioneer for day was Mr Giles Belton, with assistance from fellow committee members, Bernard Woods, Maeve Smith, Hilary Lynch and Karen Healy.

“The lunch is now in its 16th year and is considered to be one of the best social networking days within the business community, said Karen, one of the main organisers for many years.

“In the stressful world we live in today, it’s nice for a change to be laughing while still doing business and we all can’t wait for next year’s lunch”.

The committee would really like to thank everyone for all their support for this year’s lunch and for years gone by.
