Godfrey calls for 50c per hour parking

-

THE farcical parking situation in Drogheda must be addressed as a matter of urgency, Independent Cllr Frank Godfrey has said.

‘Drogheda motorists have been paying the highest parking prices in the county for years – they are being discriminated against – and this must be addressed!’ said Cllr Godfrey, who suggested that a maximum charge of 50 cents per hour be introduced. ‘Back in 2002 the cost was 50 cent per hour – and since then a charge of €1, rising to €1.20, has been levied on Drogheda motorists! They have been paying through the nose for parking in Drogheda since then, at higher rates than Dundalk!’

‘ The fiasco that is Drogheda’s current parking situation must be investigated, and somebody must be held accountable.

‘It’s 20 years ago now that I mentioned a Park & Ride scheme for the town, which was covered in The Drogheda Independent at the time. And still no movement on it!’

‘I am calling on my colleagues on Louth County Council, on behalf of the people of Drogheda, who have been hard done by for years, to support my call for a 50 cent parking fee all over town,’ he concluded.
