IT never fails to get people to stop and wonder and last Good Friday was no different.

Unfortunately, the rains came for the first time in many years to truly test the resolve of those taking part in the annual Way of the Cross ceremony, but it did nothing to deter those who have been part of this spectacle for many years.

It again attracted people from across the community - young and old - and various organisations were involved, with the gardai again doing a fine job in trying to keep Drogheda’s traffic flowing - not easy at the best of times.

The Cross was carried throughout the town, starting in St Mary’s and ending in St Peter’s.

At times the singing echoed out around the town as the ceremony passed by, a haunting tone in many ways.
