Alex to continue the fight for medicinal cannabis legislation

-

A LOCAL campaigner is determined to continue to the fight to have medicinal cannabis available in Ireland - despite hitting wall after wall.

Epilipsy sufferer Alex Baizert says the drug has been proven to help people prevent seizures.

‘ The government are blocking patients like myself who need this medicine. They continue to see cannabis as a schedule one drug, a drug with absolutely no medical benefits but my professor now has a licence to prescribe me medical cannabis,’ he states. However, he still can’t get it - legally.

He has been told he will not be able to collect a prescription in his local pharmacy.

The dispensing of the product is still not regulated and pharmacies could be commiting an offence under the Misuse of Drugs Act, for possession or to supply any product with a CD1 classification. It is believed the Pharmacy union has sought clarification from the Department of Health on the matter but has received no clear response.

‘ This can help so many people and yet we can’t legally get it,’ Alex states. He says he’s determined to continue the fight until the government finally resolve the matter.
