John was always the showman

WHAT A SHOWMAN John Kirwan proved to be 30 years ago.

PART of the Drogheda Pantomime Society and playing the part of Simple Simon, he cracked a bone in his toe when he kicked one of the coffins during the ghost scene in ‘Once Upon A Time’

John bravely continued with his performanc­e and went to the Lourdes Hospital the next morning with his injured toe. They X-rayed it, found he had a cracked bone and strapped it up in a tight bandage.

And so as not to disappoint Drogheda’s panto going public, John was back on stage the following night for the next performanc­e. “I think it was his big toe he cracked, he does everything big. But he will be alright, he does not play football, just pitch and putt,” said Joe Cluskey, one of the leading lights in the panto remarked.
