Greenhills juveniles show the future is bright at club

GREENHILLS juveniles showed how bright the club’s future is with some superb performanc­es at the recent trips competitio­n.

A rearranged quarter final match saw Ciara Floyd, Aaron Mc Kenna and Diarmuid Loughman pitted against Oliver Clutterbuc­k, Cian Mc Kenna and Johnny Black.

Clutterbuc­k’s all-boys team made a bright start, but Ciara, Aaron and Diarmuid soon settled and were just a shot down after the penultimat­e end.

In the final end Oliver’s team produced some superb shots to the head, finding bit extra on the home stretch to take a hard earned victory and the last semi final place.

In the first semi Tadg Reilly, Robert McCormack and Jane Whelan got off to a flyer, opening a five-shot lead on Megan Devin, Leo Donnelly and Saoirse Allen.

But Megan’s eventually found some traction and rallied well to cut the gap to two.

However Tadg’s team surged ahead again and this time they made it stick, winning out by three shots in the end to book their place in the final.

In the second semi-final Oliver Clutterbuc­k, Cian McKenna and Johnny Black were in action again against Sophie Thornberry, Caitlin Floyd and Chloe Dykstra.

Oliver’s team found their opponents very difficult to break down in the first few ends, but eventually opened a three-shot lead.

But Sophie’s team stayed positive and gradually turned the tables, opening a twoshot lead with two ends to play.

Nerves started to creep in at that stage, but Sophie, Caitlin and Chloe kept their cool and after falling one behind going into the final end, they came came back again to edge a titanic battle.

The final will take place tonight (Tuesday) starting at 7.15pm.

Any player wishing to travel to the Redeemer BC singles open will be from 4th-10th April should put their forward on the notice board.

Times of play: Juveniles - Tuesday 7-8.15pm; Seniors - Tuesday and Thursday 8.15-10.30pm.
