Amie Dyer and Niamh Kavanagh together - what a concert that would be!

-

IT’S not too often you walk into a Drogheda hotel and find two superb singers within a few feet of each other - and not a mic in sight!

I was walking past West 29 in the Westcourt when I spotted our renowned young lady, Amie Dyer and just a couple of seats away was former Eurovision winner Niamh Kavanagh, getting ready for a Dominican Church fundraising gig.

Now, those two on the same stage... interesting.

Geraldine is a true star

TALKING about another gem, I heard Geraldine Simpson’s rendition of ‘Jerusalem’ as part of the Augustinian Gospel Choir in the Augustinian recently.

Geraldine (pictured on the left) is a stunning singer and seems to be just getting better and better.

I have heard her perform on different stages and she moves easily from one genre to the next. A very special talent to have.

I think she raises the bar with each performance she delivers and with the Gospel Choir in full voice behind her, she rules the world.

Also, have to mention that the one and only Gerry Simpson can play a mean piano too!

Martina Berrill can sing anything

IT’S all singers this week it seems. Another class act - testing herself as always - is Martina Berrill. I caught her version of ‘Nella Fantastia’ and what an explosive effort she delivered. Is there nothing Martina can’t sing?

St Peter’s are a class act

AND just when I thought I’d finished the musical scene - along comes the St Peter’s Male Voice Choir.

Each Easter Sunday, especially, the lads are the star attraction at the 11am mass and once more they didn’t disappoint. These are true craftsmen.

With the Drogheda Male Voice Choir and the Drogheda Boys Choir, the town is well served with some great voices and all the shows both groups stage are always much in demand.

Anna Maria Vesey and Paradise Place

A piece from the DI from 1928 - some 90 years ago - surrounding the death of Miss Anna Maria Vesey.

Anna Maria lived in Paradise Place and was daughter of Rev. Geo. Vesey, Rector of Inniscarra, Co. Cork.

The report remarked, ‘ Anna Maria lived a retired life with her sister at Paradise Place, Miss Vesey was of that fine old type of gentlewoman whose edifying characteristics earned for the latter half of the last century the name Victorian Age.’

Paradise Place - in days of old- must have been an incredible place.
