LANNLEIRE YOUNG IRELANDS 0-10 0-5

LANNLEIRE got their 2018 Division 3 League campaign off to a winning start with a hard fought victory over Young Irelands at Dunleer on Sunday with Colin Murphy scoring all ten points for his team.

Fielding a youthful side that included four of last year’s minors, Lannleire led five points to four at the end of a keenly contested opening period as Murphy contributed all of the home side’s scores.

A determined Lannleire emerged from the dressing-rooms to contest the second half and in the opening ten minutes stretched their lead to five points, four more scores coming from the boot of Colin Murphy.

The final quarter of the game turned in to a bad tempered affair but Pierce Hawkins and Andrew Dowd in the middle won some vital possession of the ball for Lannleire and allied to some terrific defending meant the villagers were comfortable winners at the final whistle.

On a disappointing day for the Young Irelands, Jordan O’Donoghue finished with five points to his name.
