Skryne test too tough for Curraha

-

Skryne Curraha 1-14 0-10

MEATH’S longest-serving club Skryne are not yet ready to hand over the mantle to ‘ new kids on the block’ Curraha as they easily saw off the challenge of last year’s Intermediate champions in the SFC at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday evening.

This was an eagerly awaited clash between these two neighbouring clubs, but Skryne, despite the absence of Ciaran Lenehan, had too muchch knowhow for their opponentsents who were playingg their first-ever gamee at this level.

The Tara men established an early lead which they never relinquished at any stage of proceedings.

Former countyunty keeper (pictured) Paddy O’Rourke O’Rod)was in outstanding formrm at full forward, contributing seven points, five of which came from frees.

Half of Curraha’s tally also came courtesy of frees scored by Conor Moriarty. It was Moriarty who opened his side’s account and at that stage Skryne had already notched three points from Eoin Smyth, Mark Battersby and David McGoldrick.

Curraha keeper Liam Hogan did well to keep out an early effort from Bryan Davis, but when he failed to deal with Paddy O’Rourke’s effort on 16 minutes Davis pounced to force the ball over the line.

Darragh Campion and Moriarty had earlier swapped scores and by half-time Skryne had opened up a 1-7 to 0-3 advantage, with David Coyle accounting for Curraha’s other score of the half.

Skryne enjoyed an abundance of possession throughout the half and would have led by more at the break had they not tallied nine wides.

Curraha hit the opening two points of the second half before Brian Davis had Skryne off the mark.

By the three quarter-way stage Curraha had failed to make a significant impact on reducing the deficit as they still trailed by six points, 0-8 to 1-11.

Six of O’Rourke’s points came in that second half and it ensured that his side’s lead was never under serious threat.
