Talun and Blues draw

BAILE Talun and Newtown Blues drew 1-10 to 2-7 in the under 18 league semi final.

Baile Talun started well with two points from David martin. Blues replied with two points from Thomas Carr. Laurence O’Brien and Mark Bradley put Baile Talun ahead by two points.

The Blues then opened up the Baile Talun defence when a great pass from Alan Murphy put John Flanagan through for a goal. The Blues should have had two further goals but for the alert Baile Talun goalkeeper John Kieran.

Two further points for the Blues by Colin Kierans extended their lead. Gary Finlay pulled two points back for Baile Talun and the same player was on hand when a dropped ball in the Blues defence. was slotted by Gary Finlay to leave the half time score 1-7 to 1-4 in Talun’s favour.

The second half restarted with Paul Sharkey extending Baile Talun’s lead with a great 45 metre free. Paul Hanratty reduced the lead to three points with a point from play. The Blues drew level when John Flanagan fisted in a great goal. David Martin gave Talun the lead again with a point from a free.

Thomas Carr brought the sides together again. With five minutes left David Martin put Baile Talun ahead but with time almost up, Thomas Carr drove a great point over the bar from 40m to earn a replay.

Best for Baile Talun were goalkeeper John Kiernan, Glen Finlay, David Martin, Shane Sharkey and Paul Sharkey. Scorers were D.Martin 0-5, G.Finlay 1-2, P.Sharkey, M.Bradley and LO’Brien 0-1 each.

Best for Newtown Blues were Ken Rooney, Brian McCole, John Dillon, Thomas Carr, Alan Murphy, John Flanagan and Colin Kierans. Scorers were J.Flanagan 2-0 T.Carr 0-4, C.Kierans 0-2, P.Hanratty.O-1.
