Eric Heuston saved woman’s life

A Mulhuddart lady, Mrs. Somers, narrowly escaped death by drowning in the river Nanny at Laytown last week.

It is understood that Mrs. Somers, a visitor on holidays and mother of four children was sitting on the bank of the river when John, one of her children, who was playing close by, fell Into the water and was swept away by the current.

His mother, a non swimmer, went to his assistance and she was also swept away. Their cries for help were heard by Mrs. Rosslter, New Ross, and Mr. Eric Heuston, Drogheda, who Immediatel­y went to their assistance.. Both were rescued and Mr. Heuston,, a member of the Red Cross, successful­ly applied artificial respiratio­n to Mrs. Somers. Dr. O’Carroll arrived on the scene shortly afterwards.

Mrs. Somers and her husband and family offer their sincere thanks to Mrs. Rosslter, Mr. Heuston, Dr. O’Carroll, the doctors and staff of the Lourdes Hospital and the good people of Laytown through whose efforts John and Mrs. Somers lives were saved.
