Vincent Foley the pride of Duleek

-

VINCENT FOLEY was the toast of Duleek on Sunday night !

A few hours earlier at Navan, he was the player mainly responsible for putting the East Meath side into the final of the Intermediate Football Chmpionship after a hard tackling and exciting encounter wh a lively Slane combination.

Scoring was level four minutes from the end following which both citadels were raided with pulsating rapidity in attempts to raise the decisive flag but defences held firm and a draw appeared inevitable.

Some thirty seconds from the call of time, Duleek forced a 50 and the vital kick was entrusted to Foley, who, despite a heavy ball and greasy pitch, sent the leather over the bar with a masterly shot.

The long whistle was then sounded and Foley was chaired off the pitch by jubilant supporters of an 0-10 to 1-6 victory for Duleek.

Full marks to John Clarke’s team on snatching the laurels in such dramatic fashion.
