RESIDENTS MAKE THEIR POINT TO COUNCILLORS AS BYE-LAWS TO BE DISCUSSED
LOUTH County Council and local residents are to discuss the best options for the future of the Windmill Road.
Residents of the street met with councillors outside the Municipal District meeting at Barlow House last week to state their case.
They also handed over personal testimonies from those living there and a petition with over 140 names.
They say areas like Anneville Crescent and Boyle O’Reilly are also impacted badly.
‘One major issue with this is the safety of emergency vehicles being so close to the hospital,’ resident Caroline Gormley stated.
She said that one ambulance was called to a house on the Windmill Road and simply couldn’t find a place to pull in.
‘People are even parking on the yellow boxes and blocking in car.
‘Cars are parked on double yellow lines in Anneville Crescent too, blocking the entrance.’
The residents feel this will be their only chance to make a statement in relation to their future on the road.
‘We can only see it getting worse with the new extension to the hospital. We have written to all the appropriate bodies to make our voices heard.’
She said the HSE had also been contacted in a bid to help the situation.
The matter was raised at the council meeting with Cllr Tommy Byrne saying he would raise it at the meeting of the Regional Health Board.
‘I feel sorry for people in the Windmill Road and Anneville Crescent. We have to mark the roads properly and write to the hospital and ask them to ask their employees to park in the car parks.
‘Drogheda United - in the long term - will be part of the solution and Our Lady of Lourdes should take it over.
Cllr Frank Godfrey said the residents were ‘prisoners in their own homes’ and the chaotic situation had to be resolved.
