Safetycall attheWell

- By HUBERT MURPHY

RUMBLE strips either side of Newfoundwell bridge are badly needed to slow down traffic passing up and down the Termonfeckin Road.

That’s the view of local councillors who are seeking urgent works at the location.

‘ The Termonfeckin Road - for its entire length - is dangerous. Two pedestrian crossings have been added and that has done something to slow traffic,’ Cllr Oliver Tully stated.

‘But the area at the bridge has been an issue and it needs rumble strips. It’s a double bend.’

Cllr Kevin Callan agreed. ‘When motorists get through the lights, they put the foot down at The Glen.’

He also urged that yellow boxes at College Rise and Westcourt be added.

The issue was raised at last week’s meeting by Cllr Pio Smith after witnessing speeding under the bridge.

‘One person was knocked down and the school has a large population.’

Kenneth Flood said speeding was a bigger issue in the late evening while Paul Bell and Frank Godfrey both backed safety measures.

‘It is one of the busiest stretches in Drogheda with a lot of cyclists.

Tommy Byrne described it as a road’.

Louth County Council will check to see if speed surveys have been carried out in recent times and if not, may use a traffic counter to determine their next action. ‘ lethal
