Adopt an Area for Tidy Town

-

DROGHEDA has received its tenth Gold Medal in the National Tidy Towns in 2017, and the committee behind this remarkable accolade is seeking volunteers to look outside their own doorsteps to ensure the future cleanliness of the town.

The Drogheda Tidy Towns committee is very proud of this level of achievement which reflects very positively on all the citizens of our town, and greatly values the contribution which local Residents Associations make in ensuring Drogheda looks its best.

There is no doubt that 2018 will be a vitally important year for Drogheda as the Fleadh is expected to bring up to 450,000 visitors to our town.

This will be a one-off opportunity to create a long-lasting image of our town, our people and what Drogheda has to offer. With this is mind the Tidy Towns committee have launched a new initiative called “Adopt an Area Campaign”!

The Tidy Towns committee is asking the Residents Associations to partake in a campaign whereby they would adopt an area outside their estate which they will commit to undertaking regular clean ups.

It would mean that all the approach roads and the main arteries into town are given special attention, which would be of great benefit for the Fleadh and when the National Tidy Towns judging begins.

The first series of clean-ups is due to take place on Saturday 14th April.

All Residents Associations will be contacted in advance to request their involvement and also to offer assistance from the committee.

Cllr. Kevin Callan, Chair of the Tidy Towns committee, feels that it is a worthwhile initiative.

‘ There are exciting times ahead for Drogheda with the Fleadh on the horizon which will present a great opportunity to showcase our town,’ he noted.

‘I must give a special mention to the great work the Residents Associations, business owners and community groups undertake in Drogheda which benefits residents, visitors and the tourism sector.’

Any local groups that would like to assist the Tidy Towns committee with their clean-up campaign can contact them via their Facebook page.
