THE Irish Maritime Festival 2018 sails into Drogheda Port this summer. Event hosts Louth County Council this week announced that Virgin Media are on board once again as main sponsor.
Speaking on behalf of Louth County Council Festival Director Colette Moss said “We are thrilled that Virgin Media have chosen to renew their sponsorship of the Irish Maritime Festival. They provide wonderful support to the festival, especially in marketing the event to people far and wide. Their support of this event is invaluable.”
Taking place in Drogheda Port on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th June, the Irish Maritime Festival in association with Virgin Media combines maritime history and heritage with brilliant music, delicious food and lots of family friendly fun.
Speaking at the announcement Aidan Darcy, Head of Business Division at Virgin Media said “Virgin Media helps create a digital world that makes good things happen, for our customers and the communities in which we operate. Our multi award-winning services connect thousands of people across Ireland. But we’re not finished, we’re extending our network reach so that more communities and enjoy the benefits of the fastest widely available broadband speeds from only one provider in Ireland. Having extended our presence in Drogheda and created new relationships with businesses and residents, we’re delighted to support this year’s Irish Maritime Festival. We know the event attracts huge crowds, over 40,000 recorded in 2017, but more importantly it’s a great day to relax with family and friends. We’re delighted to power and provide free public WiFi at the Festival to give everyone the chance to snap and share their Maritime moments.”
The Irish Maritime Festival is hosted by Louth County Council in conjunction with Drogheda Port. It’s been described as “The Daddy of Maritime Festivals” because of the size of the event and the range of activities for visitors.
There’ll be fabulous Tall Ships to visit. Watch out for the working Maritime vessels including tugboats, lifeboats and so much more. Check out the yachts racing into Drogheda Port
A Taste of Ireland’s Ancient East, the food zone at the Maritime Festival will be bigger than ever before. Hosted by the Boyne Valley Food Network, this zone will feature the finest of local producers offering tastings and chefs providing inspiring cookery demonstrations.
Music will play a key role in the festival with live acts performing on the Ballast Quay stage all weekend. With Drogheda acting as host town to Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018, there will also be plenty of traditional Irish music on offer. And the superb Stowaway Sessions are back on the deck on a majestic Tall Ship.
Mayor of Drogheda Cllr. Pio Smith concluded “The Irish Maritime Festival in association with Virgin Media really is a showcase for Drogheda and our immense maritime history. We look forward to welcoming visitors from all across Ireland and the world to enjoy our celebrations at Drogheda Port in June.”
