Brilliant Blues make it two wins from two

NEWTOWN BLUES 0-11 ST BRIDES 0-4

NEWTOWN Blues dominated proceedings on Sunday afternoon from start to finish at Newfoundwell to run out winners by seven points.

Aided with a very strong wind, the county champions scored eight on the trot to lead comfortably at half time, with the Brides failing to manage a response. The highlight of the half came in the form of three frees from Ross Nally, the last of which was in added time just before the short whistle blast.

St Brides eventually found the target when substitute, Cathal McKenna, opened his side’s account on 38 minutes. This was quickly followed by a Kevin Hearty point to narrow the gap to six but ‘The Reds’ struggled to find the posts after this.

Nally settled the ship for the hosts when he slotted over a free-kick on 43 minutes followed by another point from Kevin Carr.

McKenna added his second of the afternoon from a ‘45 but any chance of a late comeback was quashed when Aaron Hoey was black carded on 50 minutes and another point by Nally from the resulting free kick ended the match as a contest.

There was time, however, for Mc Kenna to grab another ‘45 on the stroke of full time to bring his personal tally to three.
