Mattock’s mighty form continues in Cooley

MATTOCK Rangers chalked up another victory to maintain their bright start to the 2018 campaign as they came away from Fr McEvoy Park with a hard-fought two-point victory.

The Collon side had the better of the first half exchanges but had to withstand a strong Cooley revival after the break before holding out for another impressive victory.

Mattock opened their campaign with an eye-catching win over Ardee St Mary’s while Cooley were bidding to get off the mark after an opening day defeat to Dreadnots.

And the early-season confidence of the Mattock men was evident once again as they built up a 0-7 to 0-2 lead at half time and although Cooley managed to cut the gap in the second period they were unable to avoid a second successive defeat.

The evergreen David Reid top scored once again for Mattock while Aaron O’Brien chipped in with three points.

Midfielder Daniel Bannon kicked two important points.

For Cooley Fearghal Malone and Eoin McDaid scored three points apiece but it wasn’t enough to save the game and avoid a second straight defeat of tyhe campaign.
