Goal bonanza as Cille’s prevail

GOALS in the opening half from Donal Meagher and Eanna Walsh set St Colmcille’s up for victory in the Junior ‘B’ FC at Dunshaughl­in on Sunday.

Cille’s played against the breeze in the opening half, which proved to be a closely contested affair. The sides were level at 0-5 each when Meagher pounced for his side’s opening goal and then Gary McCloskey hit his second point.

The Ashbourne men responded with five successive points before Walsh netted on the approach to half-time to leave his side leading 2-6 to 0-10 at the break.

ST COLMCILLE’S DONAGHMORE/ASH 5-13 1-12

Two points shortly after the restart had Ashbourne level, but they only managed to add one more score to their tally after that. Cille’s took control of proceeding­s and points from Jake Hannon and Matthew Breen were followed by a goal from Eoin O’Neill.

The seasiders extended their lead with further points from Walsh and Hannon and their fourth goal came from Lee Browne.

Those scores left Cille’s out of sight, but they weren’t finished as sub Stephen O’Neill added 1-2 before the final whistle.

The Donaghmore/Ashbourne goal arrived in the closing stages.
