Serious injuries pile up for U-19s

-

DROGHEDA United were unlucky to lose against Cavan/ Monaghan on Saturday at United Park, but the main talking point was a serious injury to Dylan Culloty who sustained a fractured ankle in a tackle after only 12 minutes.

The Drogs had started well and shortly before the injury delay Clinton Apos was straight through and shot straight at the visiting keeper.

On the half-hour Drogs keeper Malachy Doyle, who made his senior bow in the EA Sports Cup recently, saw his attempted clearance rebound off the

opposing striker to give Mons a fortunate lead goal.

The Drogs went in 1-0 down at half-time and they then lost their luckless keeper Doyle shortly after the restart with a dislocated finger.

The visitors made it 2-0 15 minutes into the second half, but the Drogs continued to monopolize possession and pulled a goal back through Cian Quinn with 15 minutes to go when he volleyed in a well-struck free kick from Eoghan Broughan.

Try as they might, the Drogs could not force an equaliser, although Quinn had a half chance and William Hondermark was unlucky to see his good effort fly over the bar.

In the circumstances, they did very well considering that they now have eight of their squad out injured.

DROGHEDA UNITED: Malachy Doyle, Leo Tang, Cian Quinn, Sean Trimble, Willioam Hondermark, Eoin McPhilips, Dylan Culloty, Josh Scully, Clinton Apos, Jordan Adeyamo. Subs: Eoin Broughan, Tom Adeyinka, Luke Neville, Daniel Grace, Dylan Connolly.
