Five-star show puts trio into North Leinster

-

TULLYALLEN girls, Ballapousta girls and the Monastery Ardee boys have all booked their places at the North Leinster Finals in the SPAR FAI Primary Schools 5s after winning through from the Louth qualifiers last Wednesday.

DKIT Sports Centre in Dundalk played host to the local tournament which saw 825 students from 42 schools participate and only six places at the North Leinster Finals up for grabs.

The C Cup for large schools was a hard-fought contest between four very talented schools and Monastery Ardee eventually came out on top, but only just! They trailed 3-0 against St Mary’s Drogheda at one stage but then produced a fantastic comeback to emerge 5-4 winners.

In the other boys and/or mixed finals, Scoil Naomh Brid Omeath beat Muchgrange Greenore team and St Mary’s Knockbridge scored late to beat St Mochtas.

Participation in the girls division of the SPAR FAI Primary Schools 5s Programme reached an all-time high this year, with 12,832 4th, 5th and 6th class girls registered across the country.

Tullyallen put in a fine display against St Mary’s of Drogheda to progress from the Girls ‘C’ Cup division for large schools. Tullyallen finished off the tournament with a 4-2 win.

In the Girls ‘B’ Cup Final, the section for medium-sized schools, Ballapousta sealed qualification to the next stage after they overcame a tough challenge from Rampark of Lordship.

In the ‘A’ Cup for small schools, a strong Bellurgan NS side defeated St Pauls Walshestown in a really exciting, high-quality and hard-fought match.

The North Leinster Finals take place in the MDL Grounds in Navan on April 26th.
