A 27-point haul for Thursday’s 12 holes left Joe two points clear of Club President Pius Tierney with Brendan Hughes and Noell Magill tied third. There will be another 12 hole competition this Thursday and a reminder to all Seniors the first Goilfer of the Year counting competition over 18 holes will take place on Thursday April 26
The Byrne Monumental sponsored Wednesday Cup 9 hole competition got under way on Wednesday night with a great turnout of players on a nice evening for golf. James Coburn (17) , Raymond Kelly (16) both lost out to James Maguire (28) on the countback. Terry Taylor (13) had 21 points in fourth spot. So James becomes the first person through to the August 29 final and is the early leader in the 5 week White Marker competition. Play this Wednesday is off the Back 9 Green

The Ulster Cup second leg home match with Ballyclare was a looking a tight enough affair at one stage following or 3 ½ apiece draw last week. DUNDALK
KEVIN Barry (10) won the first major cup of the season on Sunday when he shot a three-under par 69 to claim the Jubilee Cup.
It was a narrow win as he only edged out the in-form Fergal Sexton (10) on countback. Sexton had won Wednesday’s Open Singles with an impressive 42pts and was denied back to back victories by the narrowest of margins.
Pars at the opening two holes gave Barry a good start but a double bogey at the third undid that work and the same happened at the sixth where a bogey cancelled out the benefit of parring the index one fourth.
He then parred the index three seventh and index seven eighth to get to two under nett but handed both back at the par three ninth which he double-bogeyed.
That left him on level par nett heading for home but he got it together down the back nine and came home in three-under nett after picking up shots at the 11th, 12th, 13th, 15th and 16th and giving away shots at the 10th and 18th.
In end it was that performance down the back nine that allowed him to hold off the challenge of Sexton.
Ollie English (13) took the Veteran’s Prize while Aaron Grant (+2) shot a two over par 74 to record the day’s best gross score. Category winners were Brian Mernagh (1), Pat Curran (13) and Mark Browne (20).
Sunday also saw the first nine hole singles competition and Pat Hoey (12) with 23pts took the honours.
The Masters Bumper which was organised to raise funds for juvenile golf, was a huge success and gave members an added interest in the first major of the season. Conor Curran emerged as the winner on -13 but needed his final day score of -8 to edge out Tommy McDonald on countback. Thanks to everybody who supported the event.
Congratulations to the Barton Cup team on their fine 3.5 to 1.5 win over Ardee on Sunday and also to the Boys U18 side which beat Laytown & Bettystown 3.5 to 1.5 in the opening defence of their Fred Daly Leinster title.
