August 1965

-

WE have great pleasure in congratulating Father Patrick Tierney, son of Mr. and Mrs; Edward Tierney, Bolton Square, Drogheda, on his appointment—at the age of 30—as Parish Priest of St. James’, Corinth, North Mississippi, U.S.A.

The news of the appointment was received with great jubilation in the Bolton Square—Green Lanes area where Father Paddy was reared, and which he left after his ordination seven years ago for the parish of Biloxi, in Mississippi. Bishop Gerow made the transfer official just about 14 days ago and the Drogheda priest is now P.P. of a parish the same size as his native town by the Boyneside.

Ordained in St. Patrick’s College Carlow, Fr. Tierney received a great welcome from his friends and neighbours in Bolton Square and Green Lanes every time he came home from the States. He was educated at St. Vincent’s National School (Miss Jane Sheridan was one of his teachers) of the Sisters of Charity in Fair Street, and at the local C.B.S.

Fr. Tierney spent a holiday with his parents, Mr. Ned (retired from the Post Office) Tierney and Mrs. Tierney at their Bolton Square home. He has a brothter George, and two sisters, Mrs. Eugene McKenna and Miss Mary Tierney, living in Drogheda. Fr. Tierney’s uncle, Mr. Michael Tierney of Long Island, New York, is at present holidaying in Drogheda.
