Drogheda Independent

Red Cross show

-

SUCCESSFUL concerts in aid of the Drogheda Red Cross funds were held in the Whitworth Hall, Drogheda, on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights.

Leading artistes contributed to a most enjoyable variety programme. The singers included Misses Winifred Telfer, Lily Hegarty, Maisie Moore and Mr. Geo. Ledingham. Master Liam Courtney played a selection of popular airs on the piano accordion and Miss Greta Doyle played a number of violin solos.

Mr. Brian Hoey contributed a selection on the piano and later, with Mr. Matt Kelly and Miss Margaret McEvoy, he figured in a variety turn, including impersonations of wellknown radio and film stars.

Clever exhibitions of dancing were given by Miss Mimi Tiernan’s and Miss Lyndon’s pupils. Miss Vivian Dolan performed a tap-dance cleverly and the “Darby and Joan “item, featuring Miss Dot Anderson and Miss Joan Fitzgerald, was particularly well done. Miss Tiernan’s troupe of girls performed very creditably, their contribution including “Alice Blue Gown” and “Rendezvous “with vocal chortises.

No concert programme is complete without the Crazy Gang consisting of Messrs. Fagan, Leech, Caffrey and Finglas. Their comedy sketches, full of topical allusions and with a laugh in every line, kept the audience in the best of humour.

The piano accompaniments were played by Mrs. M. Comyn who also conducted the orchestra consisting of Miss G. Doyle, Messrs. J. J. Duffy, R. Payne and P. Fulham. Mr. Fred Simpson acted as announcer and stage manager.
